Metal Alloy Crowns

A crown is a type of dental restoration which covers the entire tooth. It is used to restore a tooth if it is badly broken down and to minimise the risk of further breakage. We do this by minimally trimming the supporting tooth in all dimensions, and encapsulating the trimmed tooth within the crown.

The metal alloy crowns appear either silver or gold in colour depending on the concentration of gold within them. The benefit of these crowns is that the supporting tooth requires minimal trimming, and therefore its integrity is maintained. There is good evidence to suggest that the higher purity gold crowns (70%) have a longer lifespan.
